Companies Origin Systems Inc. (www.origin.ea.com) "We Created Worlds" In 1983 Richard and Robert Garriott started a company called Origin to create a game series called Ultima. Richard had already created Akalabet and Ultima: The First Age of Darkness. He wanted to continue Ultima and create a series of RPG games. As we all know Richard gathered a group of people to work at Origin and so it started. In 1992 Origin merged with Electronic Arts. Origin created lots of Ultima games and also games like Privateer, Wing Commander, Crusader and lots more. Homever, everything has to come to it's end. Nowadays Origin is only an Ultima Online support team. The only game OSI had in production was Ultima Worlds Online: Origin, also known as Ultima Online 2, was cancelled. Electronic Arts owns Origin and also Ultima. Electronic Arts, Inc. (www.ea.com) The evil owner of Origin, a big company that has it's foot in the gaming market. Destination Games (www.destination-games.com) When Richard Garriott's non-compete agreement with Electronic Arts ended he decided to return back to business. Now he has started a new company called Destination Games He got many of the laid-off members of Origin who will be recognized by Ultima fans: Starr Long, Carly Staehlin, Jeremy Gaffney, Jay Lee, Bill Randolph, Todd Hayes, Dave Aldritch, Jason Beardsley, Scott Jones, Victor Meinhert, Jennifer Davis, and Rick Holtrip to his staff. Destination Games has joined with a Korean online game company NC Soft. This means that Destination Games in on it's way to online gaming. So Destination Games is not going to continue producing Ultima. There's two reasons. Electronic Arts owns Ultima and the tale of Ultima and the Avatar has ended. So what can we expect from Destination Games? Online games basically. Currently they are focused on re-launching Lineage: The Bloodpledge, the world's largest subscription-based online game. |
